"metropolis eye" by ~grind-the-rust:icongrind-the-rust:

How many feet will walk the city streets tonight,
How many will cast shadows on her walls?
How many will pretend to feel at home,
Stifling the restless movements of their souls?

The concrete turns to rubble, rises up again
New scaffolding, dark windows full of eyes
And still the ever-shifting human mass
Rush by beneath a narrow strip of sky.

One cannot keep a secret from these walls
That which you hide behind knows what you hide
A careless, lifeless, unforgetting entity
A tearless, ever-open camera eye.

i was reading Baudellaires' "Parisian Scenes" when I wrote this stub.
I'm not sure if it's a finshed piece, or if I'll get back to it - i wrote it a few months ago, and haven't touched it since.

same old unchanging rhyme-scheme, but then again, Shelley also favoured the good old a-b-a-b (not that i'd compare myself to the great master), but longer lines this time - resulting in a different pace. I rather like the effect, but have trouble writing in this manner - my phrases are by nature short and punchy.

The city changes shape, but stays the same, an entity in and of itself...
